House Martyns and Wiveliscombe will meet in the 2015 Handicap Cup Final. Wiveliscombe defeated Gnomads by 310 points to 277 thanks to a personal points gain of 65 for David Woodland. Team mates Paul Nutkins and Dennis Buckingham restricted Gnomads to gains of 11 and 21 points to see Wivi through to the final.
The second semi final was decided by just 7 points. Andrew Burt and Kieran Hurford scored surpluses of 11 and 3 points for House Martyns. Ellie Baker kept her deficit to just 7 points to edge the juniors into the final. Drifters Ali Lang put in another great handicap performance and with a gain of 21 points was unfortunate to be on the losing team. The match was going House Martyns’ way until Lang scored a 15 point win over Andrew Burt in the 5th game. The juniors just managed to hold onto their lead in a very tense finish.
Basement Dwellers scored maximum 36 point victories over Tigers and Swallows to keep their title challenge on track. Vince Court, Rod Richards and Mike Vickery all completed maximums in each match for the Dwellers.
Harry Harrison made a welcome return for Roys Boys and helped them restrict Wiveliscombe to a 31 point total. John Edbrooke and Dave Woodland completed maximums for Wivi to keep them in the race for the league title. Harrison and Lee Hooper took 5 points each from their singles to help Roys boys to their 15 point haul.
Mad Batters continue to lead Division Two following 2 victories. They defeated Drifters 33-10 and then took a maximum 36 points at Barn Boys. Drifters’ Captain Mike Pretty denied Batters a second maximum total with a straight sets win over Jamie Short. Mathew, Marcus and Jamie Short all notched up maximums against Barn Boys. Barn Boys’ Captain Graham Lamacraft achieved a maximum in a 29-19 win at St. Audries. Team mates Steve Palmer and Laurie Wells added 8 and 4 points respectively. Andrew Godfrey top scored with 6 points from his singles for St Audries who forced 4 games to 5 sets and 5 to 4 sets in a closely contested match.
A fine maximum for House Martyns Andrew Burt restricted White Horse to a 30 point total. Ian Rew top scored for White Horse with 8 singles points but was denied his maximum in a 5 set defeat by Burt.
Swifts Ryan Graddon took a set from White Horses’ Chris Berry-Roper to record the juniors’ only point in a 36-1 defeat.
