The First Division’s top two sides played out a thrilling draw at Waterrow. Five of the twelve games went to fifth set deciders. Man of the Match Dave Woodland was the only player to emerge with a maximum. John Edbrooke was denied his by a straight sets defeat at the hands of Vince Court. Edbrooke and team mate Denis Buckingham beat Michael Vickery and Paul Rees 11-8 in the fifth set of the final doubles to tie the match.
Tonys Troopers made it 2 wins out of 2 as they defeated Hobby Horse by 30 points to 12. Sifa Vea and Tony Burrows both recorded maximums for the Troopers. Jon Kemp added a further 6 points from his singles with wins over Andrew Miles and Corrine Rees. Mike Lawrie took 5 of Hobby Horses 12 points.
Drifters recorded a fine 34-14 victory at Barn Boys thanks largely to maximums for Liz Fletcher and Dave Smith. Mike Pretty was only denied his maximum by a 13-15 fifth set defeat at the hands of Graham Lamacraft. Trevor Stockdale played each of the doubles for Hobby Horse and helped to add a further 8 points to the teams total.
A Jim Stiles maximum helped Space Invaders to a 33-16 victory over House Martyns. Margo Baker and Julie Pennington-Ridge added 8 singles points each for the Invaders. Ellie Baker defeated Margo Baker over 5 sets to deny her a maximum. Ellie Baker top scored for House Martyns with 6 points from her singles
