Space Invaders v Mad Batters - Score 6 – 35

Drifters v House Martyn - Score 19 – 23

Division 1 saw it’s first grand slam of the season with Basement Dwellers scoring a full 36 points against newly promoted White Horse. Vince Court, Mike Vickery and Paul Rees all had maximums for Dwellers, who also closed out the doubles games. The only resistance came from Ian Rew who scored the only two singles points for the home team. Player of the match was awarded to Vince Court’s bat.

Minehead A’s match against Gnomads was a much closer affair. Strong performances from player of the match Toby Kerslake, who scored the only maximum of the night, and Joe Camp with 7 points failed narrowly to secure a victory against Gnomads. Martin Rant headed the steady Gnomads performance with 6 points, supported by Eddie Ferris and Nigel Foster with 4 points apiece. The match hinged on the doubles where Gnomads scored maximum points to take the match by 23 points to 18.

Division 2 matches mirrored those of division 1. Space Invaders faced very strong opposition from Mad Batters who secured a decisive victory by 35 points to 6. Jamie Short was player of the match. Both he and Trevor Short scored singles maximums with Mathew Short scoring 8 points. Full points were also secured in the doubles by Mad Batters. Margo Baker was again the star of Space invaders with 4 points from their total of 6.

Drifters faced the junior side of the House Martyns and this turned out to be a close fought battle. House Martyns had by far the best of the singles with Jack Lancaster and Joseph Burt both recording maximums. Ellie Baker also supported with 4 points. Drifters singles opposition came from Mike Pretty with 5 points and Liz Fletcher with 4 points. It was however in the doubles that Drifters excelled, winning maximum points. However, this failed to redress the points as House Martyns completed their victory by 23 points to Drifters’ 19, with Jack Lancaster taking the honour of player of the match.
