Division 1– White Horse travelled to Alcombe to challenge Minehead A. The home team had a combination of youth and experience, and this time it was youth that prevailed when player of the match, Joe Camp, and thick bat specialist Toby Kerslake both scored maximums. David Veale added 3 more singles points before Minehead scored a maximum in the doubles to end the evening on 30 points. The visitors struggled to settle after their journey to the north and White Horse trailed from the outset. A spirited fight was led by this year’s signing, David Bryant, with 6 points. 3 points apiece were added by Ian Rew and Colin White. With another 3 doubles points, White Horse managed a creditable 15 points before heading south.

Division 2– Firstly a late score from last week, when Hawks entertained Barn Boys. Hawks’ captain, Mark Scyner, scored the only maximum of the match to receive the player of the match award. Both Alfie and Nathaniel Southam added 1 singles point apiece. With 1 further doubles point Hawks ended the evening with 12 points. Barn Boys scored quite freely throughout the match with Graham Lamacraft scoring 7 and Steve Palmer and Andy Fay scoring 6 points each. A maximum in the doubles gave Barn Boys the winning score of 28 points.

Roy’s Boys match against Drifters proved to be a match of extremes. In the singles all three ‘Boys’ - Dianna Garner, Barry Hooper and Roy Hooper - scored maximums, with Dianna being awarded the player of the match. But that was where their scoring ended as no doubles points were added. Roy’s Boys ended with a winning score of 27 points. Drifters didn’t fare particularly well in the singles with 2 points scored by David Smith and 1 from Liz Fletcher. On the other hand, they scored an unopposed maximum in the doubles which gave Drifters a quite respectable final score of 12 points.

Space Invaders were fired up for their encounter with Hawks. They immediately launched their attack and Matt Lawrence went on to score the only maximum and receive the player of the match award. Jim Stiles and pen-holder specialist, Margo Baker, were also relentless as they each added 6 singles points. With a 9-point doubles whitewash Space Invaders ended their mission with 30 points as they rocketed to the top of the second division. Hawks’ high flyer, Mark Scyner, narrowly missed his maximum when he failed to prevail in a 5-set thriller against Matt Lawrence. With four sets going to deuce the game could have gone either way. Mark’s 8 points ended up as the Hawks’ final total.
