Division 1–After the Christmas and New Year break the second half of the West Somerset table tennis league got underway. First match to report is House Martyns vs Shooting Stars. The match was an ‘all or nothing’ affair as only two games went beyond three sets. Nobody could get the better of player of the match, Scott Milton, who scored the only maximum of the evening. Joe Burt scored 6 and Jack Lancaster a further 4 singles points. With an excellent 8 doubles points this gave House Martyns a comfortable victory with 27 points. Shooting Stars struggled to field a full team and never got into their stride.  Jim Stiles kindly substituted for the injured Geoff Williams, who is likely to miss the remainder of the season. It was up to captain, Martin Shoots, to lead the way with 6 singles points with Jim adding 3 more. With 3 valuable points gleaned from the doubles Shooting Stars ended the match with a total of 12 points.

White Horse were challenged by neighbouring team, Gnomads. Points for the home team were at a premium and the singles saw 3 points from Ian Rew, 2 from David Bryant and I from Colin White. Jamie Robertson was the doubles specialist for the match and helped the home team to win 3 more points. Final tally for White Horse was 8 points. Gnomads were certainly on form from the start. Player of the match went to Martin Rant. Martin, Mel Horner and Nigel Foster all scored maximums in the singles. A further maximum in the doubles gave a full 36 points and the Grand Slam to Gnomads.

Minehead A also struggled to field a full team when they entertained Wiveliscombe. For the home team both Joe Camp and substitute Vince Court scored 6 points, with one further point added by Terry Cadman. The doubles were evenly contested, and 6 points scored to give Minehead a total of 19 points. Wiveliscombe played their senior team and it was the pimples of John Edbrooke that gave him his maximum and the player of the match award. Paul Nutkins scored 6 and Dennis Buckingham 4 singles points. With 7 doubles points Wiveliscombe ended the winners with 26 points.
