Division 1

This week saw the conclusion of the 2021 – 2022 West Somerset Table Tennis league. In division 1 Roy’s Boys requested that they be withdrawn from this year’s league. Due to circumstances beyond their control, they are unable to complete their fixtures this year. We hope that their difficulties will soon be resolved and look forward to welcoming the team back for our next season.

With all division 1 matches now complete our congratulations go to Basement Dwellers who take this year’s crown, with Wiveliscombe in the runners-up spot.

Division 2

The final match in division 2 was contested between Minehead Breakaways and Allsorts. From the outset Breakaways were under pressure from the favourites, and never achieved any sustained momentum. Andy Berry top-scored with 6 and was supported by Kerry Manicom with 4 and Arnould Guilliard with 2 singles points. There was little consolation in the doubles where only 2 points were gleaned. This gave Minehead Breakaways a final score of 14 points.

Allsorts were unstoppable on the night with maximums in the singles from the ambidextrous Sifa Vea and from David Smith, with player of the match being awarded to Sifa. Steve Palmer added a further 5 to complete the singles scoring. A maximum in the doubles gave Allsorts a Grandstand finish as they clinched the division 2 crown. Congratulations Allsorts! There was some consolation for Minehead Breakaways who took the runners-up spot in this division.

In a difficult year, due to COVID, we must thank all teams for completing the season, and for conducting our sport in such a friendly and supportive manner. We all look forward to returning in the Autumn for our next league season.
