House Martyns | Gnomads | 31 - 16 |
Division 1
After last week’s pivotal matches in the race for the championship there is only one match to report this week. With few matches left before the end of the season, it seems that Basement Dwellers are the hot favourites this year, leaving Wiveliscombe and House Martyns to fight it out for the runner-up spot.
House Martyns entertained Gnomads in a thrilling match that entertained all at the Lawns. The home team was on form and captain, Scott Milton, led the way with the only maximum of the evening, earning him the player of the match award. Curtis King just missed his maximum but his 8 points will help his averages. Matt Lawrence added an excellent 6 points to conclude the singles score line. House Martyns dominated the doubles with 8 to give them a comfortable victory with 31 points.
Gnomads put up a terrific fight, but many close-fought games slipped away. Martin Rant top-scored with 6, followed by Nigel Foster with 4 and Derek Mayall with 2 singles points. With a further 4 doubles points added, Gnomads ended the evening with a total of 16, meaning they will end the season in a comfortable fourth place.
