Division 1

Wiveliscombe finished their season with a flourish when they played their final match against Shooting Stars. It was a Grand Slam evening for the visitors as John Edbrooke, David Woodland, and Paul Nutkins each achieved maximums in both their singles and doubles play. The player of the match award went to John Edbrooke. Wiveliscombe’s 36-point tally puts them in a strong position to take the runner-up spot in division 1.

For Shooting Stars, Geoff Williams made each of his opponents work hard for their set points. With many sets lost by the narrowest of margins, it only resulted in Geoff scoring 1 point which was sufficient to avoid a whitewash. Late in the match, Martin Shoots also managed to glean one further point. For the rest of the evening Shooting Stars never troubled the scorecard so, with 2 points scored, it was an early finish for all.

Division 2

This week Junior-based Hawks entertained Minehead Breakaways at the Lawns. The visitors proved to be formidable opponents from the start of the match. However, Hawks’ captain, Mark Scyner, prevailed to claim the only maximum of the evening and the player of the match award. Nathaniel Southam worked hard for a total of 2, with the final singles point being added by Alfie Southam. The additional 3 points from the doubles meant the final score for Hawks rose to 15.

Minehead Breakaways kept the pressure on the home team throughout the match. Their play was also very  consistent, with Andy Berry scoring 8, and both Andy Godfrey and Arnould Guilliard adding 7 singles points apiece. With maximum doubles points this gave an emphatic victory to Breakaways with 31 points.
