The Hillbillies started their season last week by leaving Last Chance Saloon behind and entertaining Basement Dwellers. Their season commenced in a steady fashion with the ambidextrous Sifa Vea heading the cast by winning 4 sets. Curtis King and Paul Rees won three sets apiece as they fell behind with their averages. They also failed to strike oil in the doubles by adding 4 sets. This gave a final tally for the Hillbillies of 14.

Kerry Manicom added one further singles set before helping the team to maximum points in the doubles. Basement Dwellers ended with a convincing victory and 28 points.

Allsorts faced tough competition when Gnomads arrived in Minehead. Scott Milton was on sparkling form and his maximum for the home team earned him the player of the match award. Andy Berry added a further 3 singles sets. Matt Lawrence continued to struggle with severe back pain but soldiered on to gain 2 singles sets. There was little between the teams in the doubles but Allsorts managed to prevail with 8 sets to give them a total of 22 points for their evening’s work

Gnomads played steadily and consistently throughout with Martin Rant and Derek Mayall winning 6 singles sets apiece. This meant that Martin lost his first sets in this current playing year. Nigel Foster added a solid 5 singles sets before the team collected a valuable 7 doubles sets. This gave a narrow victory to Gnomads with a total of 24.

Both David Woodland and Paul Nutkins scored maximums in the singles, with David being awarded player of the match. Ben Cooper completed the singles scoring with 4 sets before the team combined to score maximum points in the doubles. This gave a convincing win for Wiveliscombe with a match total of 31.

Hillbillies never really got going  and Curtis King and the ambidextrous Sifa Vea scored 4 singles sets apiece. Andy Godfrey played as substitute and added a further 2 singles sets. With 4 doubles sets the final tally for Hillbillies rose to 14.
