Basement Dwellers hosted Gnomads at the Lawns in their quest to head the league table. The match was hard fought with captain, Vince Court, leading the way by scoring a maximum for the player of the match award. The hard-hitting Toby Kerslake closely followed with an excellent 8 sets. Kerry Manicom concluded the sigles scoring with a further 3 sets. Basement Dwellers were impressive in the doubles with 8 sets to give them a final winning score of 28.

Gnomads pushed their hosts throughout the match. Captain, Martin Rant, just missed his maximum and scored an excellent 8 singles sets. Tony Brooks added a solid 5, and Derek Mayall the final 3 singles sets. There was modest success in the doubles where the 4 sets won gave Gnomads a final tally of 20 points for the evening.

Allsorts entertained Wanderers in what was always going to be a difficult match for the visitors. For the home team it was maximums all round in the singles for Curtis King, Sifa Vea and, substitute for the evening, Mark Scyner. Curtis was pleased to see his averages improve, and to receive the player of the match award. With a maximum in the doubles, Allsorts won the match with a grand slam score of 36 points to take them to the top of the league table.

Wanderers struggled against such strong opponents but played with good spirit throughout the match. Jani Jasielczuk won the only singles set for his team, with Laurie Chalk and Tim Bosley combining in the doubles to also win a single set. Final score for Wanderers: 2 points.

The final match this week saw Drifters at home to White Horse. It turned out to be a very close match. Star player of the evening was Drifters’ Andrew Miles who scored a maximum with his pimple bat, to win the player of the match award. Well done Andrew. Liz Fletcher added a solid 6 singles sets with substitute for the evening, Alfie Southam, adding one final singles set. Drifters prevailed in the doubles with 8 sets to give them a final score of 24.

White Horse had been champing at the bit to get their season under way. From the off the visiting team played consistently. Ian Rew led the field with an excellent 8 sets, closely followed by Andy Godfrey and Jamie Robertson with 6 and 5 sets respectively. White Horse met heavy going in the doubles, winning 5 sets. At the finishing post it turned out to be a dead heat with both teams entering the winners enclosure with 24 points apiece
