The first match this week saw Roy’s Boys hosting Drifters. Barry Hooper was the star player of the evening, and his maximum in the singles earned him the player of the match award. Further singles sets were hard to come by with Charlie Bond scoring 2 and Roy Hooper 1. There was modest success in the doubles with a further 4 sets added. This brought the final tally for Roy’s Boys to 16.

Drifters played consistently throughout the match. Mike Newman led the way with 7 sets on his first outing of the season. Liz Fletcher and Andrew Miles added 6 sets apiece before everyone combined to score a maximum in the doubles. Drifters ended with a comfortable victory and a total of 28 points to give them second position in the table.

The second, and final, match this week saw Wanderers at home to Basement Dwellers. This was always going to be a difficult match for the home team as they took on last season’s division 1 runners-up. Jani Jasielczuk had the greatest success in the singles, winning 5 sets. Laurie Chalk battled hard and added a further 3. Wanderers then lost their way for the rest of the match, ending the evening with their 8 singles points.

Basement Dwellers were relentless throughout the evening. Vince Court was awarded player of the match for his singles maximum. Andrew Miles was substitute for the evening and scored 7, with Kerry Manicom completing the singles with a solid 6 sets. With an unopposed maximum in the doubles, Basement Dwellers had an emphatic victory with 31 points, promoting them to the top of the table.
