Drifters | Waterrow | 21 - 21 |
Division 1
Hawks were eagerly awaiting a flying visit from White Horse this week in a potential relegation battle. But it was the visitors who got off to a flying start as White Horse made all the running. For Hawks, Mark Scyner was the high flier, and player of the match, with the only maximum of the evening. In the singles, Alfie Southam gave good support with 5 sets, together with one set added by Nathaniel Southam. In the doubles there was only one set gleaned so Hawkes ended their evening with 16 points.
White Horse charged away from the off and gained ground throughout the match. This week it was Ian Rew who led from the front with 7 singles sets, closely followed by David Bryant with 6 and Jamie Robertson with 4. A maximum in the doubles saw White Horse romp home with 26 points for a comfortable victory.
Division 2
It was a wintery trip over the hills for Waterrow when they journeyed to challenge Drifters. Throughout the match there was nothing to separate the teams. For Drifters, Dave Smith top-scored with 7 singles sets, with Liz Fletcher scoring 6 and Andrew Miles 3. The doubles were also closely fought and, with 5 sets, Drifters ended the match with 21 points.
For Waterrow it was Eamonn Farrelly who was the stand-out player, with Eamonn’s singles maximum earning him the player of the match award. Dennis Buckingham and Russell Foote each added 3 singles sets. In the doubles there was again little to choose between the two teams. Waterrow prevailed in 6 sets which saw the match end in a dead heat with 21 points apiece.
