Division 1

Basement Dwellers aimed to extend their lead at the top of the table when they entertained Hawks. For the home team, Vince Court won the player of the match award for his unopposed maximum. Danny O’Leary  added 6 sets and excellent support was given by substitute, Dave Smith, who added 5 singles sets. With a maximum in the doubles, Basement Dwellers ended the match with 29 points to become the target team for those aspiring to win division 1.

Hawks gave a good account of themselves with Mark Scyner top-scoring with 6 sets in the singles. Alfie Southam won 4 sets with Nathaniel Southam the final 2. There was little success in the doubles with 2 sets, giving Hawks a nest egg of 14 points for their evenings work as they fly after White Horse in the foot of the table battle.

Division 2
This week saw Phoenix playing their final match when they hosted Waterrow. The scoring for Phoenix soon took off and they remained flying high throughout the evening. Geoff Williams top-scored with a maximum for the player of the match award and Martin Shoots put in a solid performance with 6 singles sets. Liz Fletcher played as substitute and also put in a sterling performance with 6 singles sets. With a maximum in the singles, Phoenix was on fire before vanishing in a blaze of glory with 30 points and the division 2 title. It has to be seen whether Phoenix reappears next year as this will be dependent upon recruiting a team member to fill the current vacancy.

Waterrow put up a good fight throughout the match with Eamonn Farrelly playing some epic games for an excellent 8 sets. Russell Foote added 2 singles sets, with Dennis Buckingham 1. Little headway was made in the doubles but, with 2 sets won, Waterrow’s final tally rose to 13 points.
