Division 1
White Horse was looking to gain ground in the league table when they entertained Allsorts. For the home team it was David Bryant who was firmly in the saddle as he made most of the running with 8 singles sets. Jamie Robertson followed on with 2 sets, and Ian Rew came home with 1. In the doubles the going was hard but White Horse prevailed in 3 sets to give a final tally of 14 points.
For Allsorts, it was substitute Mat Lawrence who won the player of the match award for the only maximum of the evening. This was achieved after an epic 5-set battle with David Bryant. The team played consistently with Curtis King adding 7 singles sets to maintain his averages. The ambidextrous Sifa Vea concluded the singles with a solid 6 sets. With 8 doubles sets to add, Allsorts ended the match with a clear victory and 30 points.
Division 2
Drifters travelled to Old Cleeve to challenge Phoenix this week , putting up a determined fight throughout their match. The scoreline did not do justice to their efforts with all their points all coming from the singles, led by Dave Smith with 3 sets, and Liz Fletcher with 1. Drifters therefore ended their evening with 4 points. However, Dave Smith played the game of the evening against Martin Shoots which went to deuce in the 5th set. But it was Martin who pulled the sword out of the hat for the home team as he went on to complete his singles maximum.
Phoenix was flying from the start and on fire for the whole match. Danny O’Leary was substitute for the evening, also scoring a singles maximum. But it was Geoff Williams who was awarded player of the match for his unopposed maximum. A further maximum in the doubles meant Phoenix ended the match in a blaze of glory and a grand slam score of 36 points.
Roy’s Boys paid a visit to close neighbours, Waterrow, for a close-fought battle. During the match no less than 16 sets were decided by the minimum 2-point margin. For Waterrow, Eamonn Farrelly led the way, and his unopposed maximum earned him the player of the match award. Russell Foote found form, winning 5 singles sets, with Dennis Buckingham adding a further 4. With 7 doubles sets, Waterrow ended the evening with a victorious 25 points.
Roy’s Boys did not make the match easy for their hosts with both Barry Hooper and Charlie Bond winning 6 singles sets apiece. Roy Hooper gave good support with 4 sets. The overall match result technically came down to the difference in performance in the doubles. Roy’s Boys prevailed in 3 sets to end with a total score of 19 points.

Division 1
Allsorts were at home this week where they entertained Hawks. The hosts were on good form as both Andy Berry and Curtis King each achieved a maximum in the singles. Player of the match went to Curtis for his unopposed maximum – a feat that will help improve his averages. The ambidextrous Sifa Vea added the remaining 4 singles sets. Allsorts then added a further maximum in the doubles to raise their match score to 31 points and a decisive victory.
Hawkes found it hard to land quite as many singles sets as they hoped but it was Alfie Southam who top-scored with 5, supported by Mark Scyner with 4. Nathaniel Southam helped Hawks to win 3 doubles sets to give a final score of 12 points for the evening
Division 2
Wanderers remained at home this week to challenge Phoenix. The home team have been improving throughout the season and have become a force to be reckoned with in division 2. Matt Lawrence led the way with an excellent 8 singles sets with the remaining 3 singles sets being added by Laurie Chalk. In the doubles, Cas Chalk helped Wanderers win 2 sets to bring the team total to 13.
It was a slow burn for Phoenix as they failed to win a set in the first game of the evening. From the second game onwards Phoenix was on fire as their scoring took off. Geoff Williams was the high flier with a singles maximum, and the player of the match award. Danny O’Leary played as substitute and scored an excellent 8 singles sets, with Martin Shoots adding a solid 6 sets. Phoenix soared to victory after closing out the doubles with a maximum, and a final tally of 32 points.
