Division 1

Hawks made their division 1 debut this week when they entertained Allsorts. As last season’s division 2 champions they gained promotion to the first division. Undaunted, the stand-out player for the home team was Alfie Southam, winning 8 singles sets. The remaining 6 singles sets were won by team captain, Mark Scyner. Nathaniel Southam joined his team mates in the doubles to add a total of 6 sets, raising the final tally for Hawks to 20 points.

Allsorts played consistently throughout the match. Curtis King earned himself the player of the match award for his maximum in the singles - a score that will help improve his current season average. 6 singles sets apiece were added by both Andy Berry and the ambidextrous Sifa Vea. It was honours even in the doubles where Allsorts also won 6 sets to give them a winning match score of 27 points.

Division 2

Phoenix held their first home match of the season when they hosted Wanderers. The visiting team are continuing to develop and it was a welcome return from injury for Matt Lawrence as he led the way for the team with 7 singles sets. Laurie Chalk added 4 further sets, with Cas Chalk concluding the singles with 2. Throughout the match there was an exceptional number of nets and edges meaning that many sets could have gone either way. With success in 4 doubles sets, the final tally for Wanderers rose to a creditable 17 points.

Phoenix struggled to get off the ground for the first half of the match as the visitors provided tough opposition. The team gradually rose from the ashes as Geoff Williams scored a maximum, earning him the player of the match award. Martin Shoots added 6 singles sets and Robin Arkell ended the singles with 5. With 6 doubles sets Phoenix ended the evening in a blaze of glory with a winning total of 26 points.

Waterrow continued to press the top of the division 2 table this week when they hosted Drifters. Both Eamonn Farrelly and Dennis Buckingham scored maximums in the singles, with player of the match being awarded to Eamonn. Russell Foote added 4 singles sets before the team went on to prevail in the doubles with 7 sets. Waterrow completed their victory with a total of 29 points.

Drifters battled hard all evening and made their opponents work hard for success. Throughout the match many sets were lost by the minimum 2-point margin. Liz Fletcher led the way with 5 singles sets, supported by David Smith with 4 and Andrew Miles with 3. The 5 doubles sets brought the score for Drifters up to 17 for the evening.
