Did you know that coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer? It kills nearly one in six men and more than one in ten women and is responsible for almost 74,000 deaths in the UK each year, an average of 200 people each day. There are currently 2.3 million people in the UK living with coronary heart disease.

On the first Friday of the month, 7 February, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) asked the great British public to Ramp up the Red and join the fight for every heartbeat.

Competition organiser John Ratajczak said “We wanted to get involved because we think the charity does great work. We were hoping to raise £150 for the BHF helping them to fund the research that is so urgently needed to fight heart disease. Incredibly and largely due to the entry auction we actually raised £500. The players and their supporters have been so generous. The entry auction proved to be very exciting with a lot of tactical bids being made.

The For All Healthy Living Centre kindly donated the use of their community hall and the Weston-super-Mare Table Tennis Association donated £30 to the BHP in support of the competition.

It was incredibly easy to organise the event and we had a lot of fun on the day. N&B Table Tennis Club are proud to have raised the £500 for the BHF and to have helped continue to fund the vital research needed to fight heart disease.”

Louise Parkes, Fundraising Director at the BHF, said: “A huge thanks to N&B Table Tennis Club for their innovative fundraising efforts. It has been fantastic to witness the UK rallying together in support of the BHF by ramping up the red to fight heart disease. All money raised will help us truly fight for every heartbeat.”
