WORCESTER TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE  SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019

HELD AT BISHOP PEROWNE CE COLLEGE, WORCESTER

ON SATURDAY 9th March, 2019

 

The Worcester League’s Championships were held at Bishop Perowne CE College with Janet Hunt in charge of the 9 events on the programme.

 

The Men’s Singles event saw current Champion, Simon Claxton; retain his title beating Luke Moffatt in the final – 11-9, 11-7, 11-9. Simon had beaten Patryk Kowacz in the semi-final - 11-7, 11-6, 12-10, and Luke had beaten Lukasz Gatkiewicz in a very close game in the other semi-final– 14-12, 16-14, 11-9.

 

Simon also won the Veterans’ Singles beating Mark Fiddian in the final – 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 11-4.

 

Luke had two further successes – in the Men’s Doubles, playing with young Alex Emms, they beat Simon and Lukasz – 5-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 in the final, and in the Tyler Cup (the main Handicap event) Luke (0) - beat Pete Griffiths (+5) in the final – 21-18, 21-19.

 

In the Veteran’s Doubles (draw for partner) Mark Fiddian and Pete Griffiths beat Steve Dorrell and David Brown – 11-6, 11-3, 13-11.

 

The Veteran’s Singles Handicap saw John Stalker (+2) - in the final beating Mark Fiddian (0) - 21-20, 21-13.

 

The Doug Young Cup (for Division 2 players) was won by Leon Claxton who beat Thomasz Borek in the final – 7-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9.

 

The Charity Doubles (draw for partner) saw Elliott Brandwood and Leon Claxton winning this event beating Pete Griffiths and Lloyd Taylor – 5-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6 in the final.

 

In the Intermediate Singles (for players Under 21) - Alex Emms had further success by beating Lloyd Taylor 9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-6, 11-3 in the final.
