Table Tennis activity returned to the Hastings area on Saturday when Bexhillians Table Tennis Club became the first venue in the district to reopen it’s doors after the restrictions imposed during the Coronavirus lockdown.
Indoor sports activity has been prohibited since mid-March but restrictions were lifted with effect from 25th July, subject to the strict implementation of health and safety protocols issued by Table Tennis England under government guidelines.
Bexhillians, who are based at Bexhill Youth & Community Centre at 10, Station Road, Bexhill TN40 1RE, have nine teams playing competitively in the Hastings Table Tennis League, although competition is still not allowed. The club also offers practice and coaching facilities for all ages and levels of ability and these functions are now available for members and visitors.
Initially, the club will be opening Friday evenings and all day Saturday, and the first open day saw a mix of team players, social players and juniors.
The first junior to benefit from the coaching of TTE coach and club secretary Trevor Towner was thirteen year old Oli Matthews.
The day-long session was supervised by Centre manager Paul White, and he and Trevor Towner are to be congratulated for getting the venue up and running. Good news for the Hastings table tennis community is that two other clubs are hoping to open their doors in the near future.
