Results from Bromley Open Tournament

Thanks to everyone who participated in our annual open tournament on Sunday. The standard of play was excellent with the strongest entry we have had to date. The competition started with 6 groups of 5 players, with the top 3 going through to the knock out stages for the champions trophy. Remaining players competed in the consolation event for the John Cheadle Challenge shield which was launched back in 2015.

The knock out stages offered some excellent table tennis with some really tight encounters. The semi finals saw no1 seed Jason Thompson play youngster Declan Gardiner with no 2 seed Jamie Cartwright playing Dave Rogers in the other Semi. The top seeds came through unscathed, setting up a mouthwatering final for our spectators. The final lived up to the fast paced encounter that was expected with Jason taking the first end 11-8. Jamie fought back well to take the 2nd end but Jason regained the lead and went on to win in 4 sets.

The final of the consolation event saw Darek Zawada lift the John Cheadle Challenge Shield beating Dariusz Sienko in the final.

Thanks again to everyone who got involved and we look forward to seeing people back next year :)
