Division 1
Table toppers Lions B further extended their lead at the top this week and now hold an impressive 10 point lead from their closest rivals Whistlers A and Lions A.
This week saw the league leaders record a comfortable 7-3 win over Whistlers B. Joshua Butler was the pick of the bunch in the encounter and he won all of his singles matches, which included an impressive 4 game win over the recent Betway Sports Personality of the year award runner-up, Alice Loveridge. His other wins came over Dawn Morgan in 4 and reserve Joseph Bourgaize in straight games. Olly Langlois was edged out in 5 by Loveridge, however he comfortably dispatched Morgan and Bourgaize in straight games. Langlois and Butler overcame the pairing of Loveridge and Morgan in the doubles match without loss. Ryan Bichard contributed to the victory courtesy of a straight game win over Bourgaize, however he lost out in straight games to both Loveridge and Morgan.
Whistlers A remain in 2nd spot due to having a greater games difference than Lions A, however they were surprisingly held by the side previously at the foot of the table, Lions C. The Lions side have now moved off the bottom of the table for the first time this season due to this result, which has seen them record points for the 3rd consecutive week. Despite being held, Garry Dodd put in another good set of performances which saw him defeat Paul Hainsworth and Liam Robilliard in straight games and Andre De Carteret in 4. He came very close to making it a perfect evening whilst pairing with Phil Hunkin in the doubles clash against Hainsworth and Robilliard, however it was the Lions pair that fought back from the dead to earn the important rubber. Dodd and Hunkin led 2-0 and were within a few points of the win towards the tail end of the 3rd before the Lions duo edged it 13-11. The match duly went to the decider which was another nervy affair eventually picked up 12-10 by Hainsworth and Robilliard. Hainsworth and Robilliard each beat Mark Pipet and Hunkin in singles action to earn the draw, whereas both Whistlers players earned wins over De Carteret.
Lions A took full advantage of the slip by Whistlers A and moved back level on points after an 8-2 win over Whistlers C. Phil Ogier showed signs of his best form on the night where he completed an unbeaten hat-trick of singles wins. He overcame both Lawrence Stacey and James Rabey in straight games before finishing with a 4 game win over Joshua Stacey. Ben Foss earned a superb straight game win over Joshua in addition to recording a straight game win over Rabey. He did not have enough against Lawrence who won in 4. Ogier and Foss combined well in the doubles and overcame the Stacey twins in straight games. Reserve Matt Stubbington put in a good shift for the Lions side and he picked up matching 5 game wins over Lawrence and Rabey, having earlier lost a tightly contested 3 setter to Joshua.
Division 2
Lions D remain situated at the top of the 2nd by a single point after they edged out St Pauls A 6-4. Martin Sarre and Andy Gill led the way with 2 singles wins each, the former beating Trevor Bourgaize without loss and Chas Elliott in 5, the latter overcoming Bourgaize in 4 and Maurice James without loss. Gill was also on hand to pick up a crucial doubles win alongside Ian Le Page over James and Bourgaize 3-0. Le Page himself left the best for last and earned a massive 5 game win over Bourgaize in the final match of the night, having trailed 2-1.
Division 3
After just 5 matches, Whistlers F already hold a commanding 4 point lead. Their perfect winning record continued with an 8-2 win over Lions H in a match where both Paula Le Ber and Joseph Bourgaize were undefeated. Each overcame Dave Finn, Rob Vile and Ken Tucknott in singles action. Daisy Kershaw picked up a 4 game win over Finn and also teamed with Bourgaize to defeat Vile and Tucknott 3-2 in a doubles match that they trailed 2-0. Vile and Tucknott both picked up consolation straight game wins over Kershaw.
Division 4
Lions I remain to romp towards the title and lead by 9 points. They were 8-2 winners over Whistlers J this week and Andy and Sue Ferbrache each beat Corey Brouard, Matthew Board and reserve Tom Hagerich in singles matches. Sophie Ferbrache beat Board in straight games, but lost out to Brouard in 4 and Hagerich in straight games. Andy and Sophie won the doubles clash over Brouard and Board without reply.
Division 5
Lions L retain their 3 point advantage at the top and overcame Whistlers L 7-3 this week. Graham Mallett led the way with wins over Matt Hale, Tom Hagerich and Morgan Price. Derek Cave and Janine Mallett each beat Price and Hale, but each lost out to Hagerich in 4 and 5 games respectively. The pair teamed to defeat Hagerich and Price in 4 games in the doubles encounter.
