Division 1
Lions A remain a single point clear at the top of the 1st Division after they recorded a narrow 6-4 win over Whistlers A this week.
Joshua Butler and Ben Foss led the way with singles wins over Mark Pipet and reserve Charlotte Casey, but each needed 4 games to get past the former. The doubles encounter proved to be crucial to the outcome of the match and it was Butler and Foss that came back brilliantly from 2-0 down to win in 5 over the strong pairing of Garry Dodd and Pipet. Junior Dan Collenette was the player to earn the all important 6th win for the league leaders when he comfortably overcame Casey in straight games. Dodd continues to head the way in the Division and he powered to another trio of straight game singles wins on the night.
Lions C continue the chase and they ran away as 7-3 victors over an under strength Lions B side missing Olly Langlois. Phil Ogier and Paul Hainsworth made no mistakes during their singles encounters against Ryan Bichard, Luke Bichard and reserve Liam Robilliard, with just the single end being dropped by Hainsworth during his 4 set win over Luke. Hainsworth was also on hand to combine with Andre De Carteret during a hard fought 5 set doubles win over the Bichard brothers. De Carteret battled hard in his singles matches and was unfortunate to not come away with a win, Robilliard battling back from 2-1 down in their encounter to win over the distance.
The clash between the sides at the foot of the table ended as a 7-3 win in Whistlers C's favour, Whistlers B the side to remain rooted to the bottom. Lawrence Stacey continues to impress with his form this season and he picked up another hat-trick of wins on the night. He defeated Martin Sarre in 4 games and Joseph Bourgaize, surprisingly in 5, however it was his win in his opening match of the night which was his best. It came against twin Joshua and the clash was a tough battle in which Joshua fought back from a 2-1 deficit to force the decider. The last end was tight, but Lawrence looked to have it in the bag whilst leading 10-9 and in control of the point. Joshua earned a massive slice of fortune with an edge of his lobbed retrieval to square matters at 10-10, but Lawrence did not let this affect him and he showed good nerve to eventually see it out 15-13. Reserve James Rabey had a good night at the office and he picked up matching 4 set wins over Bourgaize and Sarre. Matthew Casey overcame fellow junior Bourgaize in 4 to complete the win and he also teamed with Lawrence during a 5 set doubles win over Joshua and Sarre, 14-12 the score in the decider.
Division 2
The hotly anticipated top of the table clash between Lions D and Lions E ironically ended in a 5-5 stalemate this week.
The sides remain locked together on points at the top, however the D side crucially have a game in hand on their title rivals.
During the clash there were 5 matches to be extended to the full 5 game distance and it was the E side that won 3 of those. Luke Le Tissier was the man of the match and was solely responsible for all of his side's 5 set wins, all of which came from losing positions. First he trailed Ian Le Page 2-1, then Andy Gill 2-0 and then finally Jamie Ferbrache 2-1 in the final and pivotal game of the match. Mike Lucas beat Le Page in 4 and Carl Le Tissier overcame Le Page in straight games to secure the draw. Ferbrache and Gill showed good form during their singles wins over Carl and Lucas and the duo form one of the strongest doubles combinations in the Division and this was evidenced due to their impressive straight game win over Luke and Carl.
Division 3
Whistlers G remain 2 points clear at the top after they overcame Lions I 7-3. Ellis Tomlin continues to be the main man in the Division and the Junior retained his 100% singles record during wins over Mike Brehaut, Lynn Finn and Jenny Powell. Tom Hagerich repeated that feat to secure the win and this included a 5 set win over Brehaut in which he needed to reverse a 2-1 deficit. The youngsters combined to win the doubles encounter in straight games over Finn and Powell. Each of the Lions players earned victories over reserve Jayden Tucknott.
