Division 1
It was business as usual for the leading trio of teams in the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored leagues as all 3 earned victories over opposition to keep it tight at the top.
Having moved to the summit of the table for the first time last week, current leaders Whistlers B recorded a strong 8-2 win over Lions D this week. Recent CI Top 12 Champion Josh Stacey continued his strong run of form and made it 12 consecutive 1st Division wins courtesy of singles wins over Liam Robilliard, Sam Clark and reserve Steve Ozanne, dropping just the single end to Ozanne in the process. Mark Pipet and Ellis Tomlin each picked up wins over Clark and Ozanne to make sure of the win, however neither was able to overcome Robilliard. Stacey and Tomlin won the doubles rubber over Robilliard and Clark in 4 sets.
Whistlers A remain a single point off the pace after earning a 7-3 win over Lions B. Lawrence Stacey, Ryan Gilson and Matthew Casey each earned singles wins over Dan Collenette and Andre De Carteret. Stacey and Casey took the doubles rubber against Ogier and De Carteret in 4 sets. Despite the defeat for his side, Ogier was in great form and this included a hattrick of decisive straight sets wins over each of the Whistlers team members, including current Men's Singles Island Champion Stacey. Across the 9 ends he lost just 37 points.
Lions A are 2 points off the leaders and fought to a narrow 6-4 win over Lions C. Paul Hainsworth was playing his first table tennis of the new decade after a 6 week break but he showed no signs or rust after completing an unbeaten evening of action for his defeated side. This included straight sets wins over Ryan Bichard and Jamie Ferbrache before an impressive 4 sets win over Division 1 averages leader and recent Capelles Open Singles champion Ben Foss. He rounded off the evening with a 4 set doubles win alongside Charlotte Casey over Foss and Ferbrache. Each of the Lions A side picked up wins over Andy Gill and Casey to make sure of the win. The key encounter came between Gill and Bichard in the 2nd match of the night, with Bichard holding his nerve to come through 11-9 in a topsy-turvy 5th game decider.
Division 2
Lions F held onto their 2 point lead at the top after securing a hard fought 6-4 win over 3rd placed side Lions E. Jez Powell was key for his side as he earned a 5 set win over Carl Le Tissier, a 4 set win over Steve Ozanne and a straight sets win over Tim Le Page. Junior Caden Brouard also had an excellent evening which started with superb 5 set wins over both Ozanne and Le Page. Powell and Brouard combined well to win a tight straight sets double rubber over Le Page and Le Tissier. For the beaten side each player picked up wins over Andy Ferbrache in straight sets, whilst Le Tissier added a further straight sets win over Brouard.
Lions H remain to be a solid 5 points clear at the top following their 7-3 triumph over the youthful Ridunian Ravenscroft Panthers D outfit. Brian Ferbrache continued his good form by earning wins over Marli Barker, Amy Wesley and Melissa Johns, whilst Jonah Ingrouille also had a strong evening with wins against Johns and Barker. Steve Potter added a further win against Johns to make sure of the win. The doubles match was won by Ferbrache and Potter over Wesley and Johns in straight sets.
