'Come and try it' offer from table tennis association
Former table tennis players, or anyone wishing to try their hand at the game, are being invited to attend a 'Come and Try it Session' organised by the local association.
There is a break in the winter league during the schools' half term holiday and the Isle of Man Table Tennis Association is offering an opportunity to anyone interested to see if the game appeals to them. Bats and balls will be provided with local players on hand to assist - either by offering advice or just providing a hitting partner.
It all takes place at the National Sports Centre on Wednesday February 19th between 7 and 10pm and anyone is welcome to attend, whether they are complete beginners or former players wishing to renew their acquaintance with the game.
Maggie Mulhern, chair of the Association, explained: 'A lot of people have said to us that they would like to try table tennis but felt a bit self-conscious about joining a club in case they weren't very good. Alternatively, we know there are many former players out there who just need a bit of encouragement to get back in harness.
'We run three divisions in the Isle of Man Table Tennis League which cater for all standards and ages. For example, we have some players still playing a mean game in their seventies and the beauty of table tennis is that you can enjoy it at whatever age. But even if you don't want to take part in the league you can come along to try it out and maybe continue to play socially with a friend or family member.'
The special evening on February 19th is aimed at the age group from 14 upwards as younger players already have the chance of getting involved through the Manx Youth Games. A total of 12 tables will be available throughout the evening in the Secondary Hall of the NSC so any would-be participants can drop in at any time.
