Division 1

Copy Shop A (1) Travellers A (8)

Sasha Thomas was the mainstay of the Copy Shop A team that had Sonja Shaw and Dan Levine playing up in this tie. Sasha started impressively with a fabulous victory over Liam Chan, ranked well above him in Division 1, beating him 3-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-7. He then had a tremendous battle with Malcolm Cummings, only losing out 6-11 in the 5th. He could make no impression however against the mighty Scott Lewis and lost 3-0. Sonja did well to take a game off Cummings but other than that was unable to repel the Travellers trio. Dan Levine made strenuous efforts, but suffered a similar fate as Sonja, and was unable to make an impression. 

 

Travellers B (3) Ramsey A (6)

John Shooter had 3 very impressive wins for the home team. He looped his way past Duncan Alexander in straight games, then beat Chris Holland 3-1. With the 3rd game going to Chris 12-10, Shooter steadied himself, and pulled through 11-6 in the 4th. His match against Adam Teare was the closest however, with Shooter coming back from 2-0 down, edging it 11-9 in the 5th after a tremendous effort by Teare. Malc Lewis played really well in this tie, taking Alexander to a 4th end, and pushing Holland all the way to a 5th end. The score for his match with Holland  was 8-11, 14-16, 11-7, 11-4, 11-13 in favour of a relieved Holland. Teare lost his second game against Malc, but then breezed through the 3rd and 4th to take the match 3-1. Finally, for the home side, William Shooter battled hard but ultimately could not overcome the quality of the Ramsey trio, shining through.  

 

Strathallan (0) Arbory (9) 

Strathallan's Wayne Taylor, Neil Quane and Ege Niyazi were up against it in this tie, with Arbory's Khayee Vinas, John Magnall and MIke Tamarov in top form. The longest match of the contest was between power hitters Quane and Tamarov, and ultimately the point went to the Arbory man Tamarov 11-2, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6. Taylor had a topsy turvy match with Magnall, pushing him to a 4th end which the Tower man won 14-12 to take the match. Young Ege Niyazi continued to show good promise but was unable to prevent a further 3 points being lost. 

 

Ramsey B (9) Tower B (0) 

Will Dalugdugan continued his impressive form with 3 solid wins in this fixture. The tricky long pips of Paul Callow was not a problem for Will, winning in 3, and he recovered well against Steve Curtis after losing the first 11-9, to take the next 3 games and the match. Finally, against Simon Ratcliffe, he took the final 2 games to take the match 3-1. Becky Taylor was also in good form and she rattled off her 3 points without losing a game, albeit there were some close ones. Finally, Tim Baker stepped up to play for the B team and re-asserted his authority with 3 tremendous wins, against Callow in 4, and both Curtis and Radcliffe in 3. 

 

Tower A (9) Peel A (0) 

Tower A had their first 9-0 of the season at just the right time, with a victory that pulled them well clear of the relegation zone. Bottom placed Peel A challenged robustly, but ultimately were unable to dent the momentum of a delighted and relieved Tower A side. Jon Taylor-Burt played up in this tie and acquitted himself extremely well. Bringing with him a strong record in Division 2, Jon was 2 up against both Ken Mitchell and Mike Bayley but was pegged back in both matches, losing in the final end. He also took Dave Parsons to 5 but was again unable to seize victory as Parsons took the final game 11-4. Stu Perry and Maggie Mulhern completed the Peel line up and despite some matches going to 4 ends, they too were unable to prevent a 9-0 victory in favour of Tower. 

 

Division 2

Peel B (5) Desmonds Douglas B (5)

Jon Taylor-Burt carried on his good form from Wednesday night, playing for the Peel A team, to this tie. This time he was able to decisively claim victory in each of his matches. He did well to beat Neil Ronan and Michaela Duchonova in 3 ends, but was pushed hard by George Tsioutsioulis, just snatching victory 11-9 in the 5th end. Michaela was so close to winning a vital point for Desmonds, after being 2-0 up, but young Ale Ramirez did extremely well to come back from the brink, winning the final 3 ends 11-9, 11-2, 11-2. Tsioutslioulis added a further 2 points for Desmonds by sweeping past Ale and Michaela, as did Neil Ronan. Bob Borland added a further point for Peel by edging past Michaela 11-9 in the 3rd. Doubles went to Neil and George for Desmonds against Jon and Bob, in 3 ends, to secure an honourable draw.
