October 13 update:

Following the implementation of the Government’s tiered system, outlined below are the implications of these for playing table tennis. Please note, that the interpretation of these new guidelines may still change, particularly for over-18s playing at tier 2, so please check this guidance regularly over the next few days, as we start to gain further clarity from the Government.

Level 1 – medium

  • Under-18s and individuals with a disability can continue to play in bubbles of up to 15 players
  • Coaches from a tier 2 or 3 area can continue to run sessions for U18 players and/or individuals with a disability
  • Over-18s can continue to take part in indoor sport in bubbles of six or less

Level 2 – high

  • U18s and individuals with a disability can continue to play in bubbles of up to 15 players and can travel in and out of a Level 3 area to take part in youth sport activities
  • Coaches from a tier 2 or 3 area can continue to run sessions for U18 players and/or individuals with a disability
  • Our current understanding is that if taking place in a club environment, over-18s can play in a bubble of six, providing they do not mix with any other individual or bubble throughout their time at the club. However, if the local authority has stated that over-18s can only take part in indoor sport with someone from their own household or support bubble, the local authority advice/guidance must be followed
  • Individuals from a tier 2 area can travel into a tier 1 or another tier 2 area to play in a bubble of six, unless local authority guidance prevents this
  • Our current understanding is that local leagues could continue/start in tier 2 areas, providing the bubbles of 6 are adhered to. Please continue to check back over the next 24-48 hours as we gain further clarity on over-18s’ participation indoors
  • Clubs with their own café/bar that is open, must shut these and their venue by 10pm and not open again until 5am
  • No competitions should take place in a Level 2 area

Level 3 – very high

  • U18s and individuals with a disability can continue to play in bubbles of up to 15 players and can travel in and out of a Level 3 area to take part in youth sport activities
  • Coaches running sessions for U18 players can continue to do so when from Level 2 or 3 areas
  • Over-18s should only take part in indoor sport with someone from their own household or support bubble
  • Over-18s should not travel in or out of a Level 3 area to take part in indoor sport activity
  • Local leagues would not be able to continue/start in these areas currently
  • Clubs with their own café/bar that is open, must shut these and their venue by 10pm and not open again until 5am
  • No competitions or events should take place in a Level 3 area
