Fusion & Cardiff set up nervy final weekend

The race to avoid relegation will go to the final weekend after Fusion and Cardiff picked up huge wins.

Fusion defeated North Ayrshire 6-2 while Cardiff defeated BATTS 5-3 to leave just two points separating the four teams.

North Ayrshire are now bottom after their defeat and will need a result this weekend to have any hope of survival.

Kazeem Adeleke and Joseph Hee were the stars for Fusion as they won two apiece, and they were ably supported by Emran Hussain and Jamal Dennison, who picked up singles.

Adeleke, Hussain and Hee established a 3-0 lead with wins over Richard Main, Sean Doherty and Danny Bajwa before Colin Dalgleish picked up a win for the Scots over Dennison.

Dalgleish would secure an impressive maximum as he defeated Hussain, but Adeleke and Hee wrapped up the win before Dennis defeated Bajwa.

Meanwhile, Ryan Owen was the hero as he won the eighth set of the match to give Cardiff their win over BATTS.
Giovanni Le Borgne and Marcus Pettersson doubles had given Cardiff a 2-0 and 4-2 lead.

But BATTS stuck in the contest with Ethan Walsh and Tony Halling defeating Owen and Dean Cundy, before Cundy succumbed to Steve Beerling in the seventh set to secure a nervy finish.

But Owen held his composure to defeat Halling and pick up a pivotal victory.

Cardiff and BATTS are now on six points apiece, with Fusion and North Ayrshire on four. BATTS’ superior sets ratio will likely see them safe, but a nervy final day is certainly in store.

Drumchapel’s faint title hopes were brought to a brutal halt as they fell to an 8-0 defeat to Ormeau.

Fielding a quartet of players making their first appearances at this level, the Scottish side found the going tough, failing to win a single game.

In fact, such was Ormeau’s dominance, Drumchapel managed no more than seven points in a single end.

Vitor Seiji Ishiy, Oriol Monzo, Ashley Robinson and Owen Cathcart represented Ormeau.
