The RDTTA AGM took place as re-arranged on Wednesday 26th June 2022. As might be expected there were some changes to the Rules of the League, mostly to do with the administration, which perhaps will be of little interest to members in general. However, new rules arising from:

                              proposal 3 - match scorecards.

                              proposals 6 & 7- playing up for "higher" team(s)

                              proposal 10 - timeouts and use of towels

are likely to be of interest to all playing members.

Proposal 3 – Amendment to reflect what actually happens with match scorecards.

Amend Rule 12.7.3 to read:

Compositions of teams and orders of play shall be recorded before the commencement of the team match by the home team first, except that the doubles pairs may be recorded before commencement of the doubles set (again home team first).

Proposal 6 – Amendment to allow players to play-up to a “higher” team within the same Division. 

Amend Rule 12.5.2 to read (all new wording):

A player belonging to a club with more than one team is allowed to play-up for a higher ranked team or teams, even if the higher ranked team is in the same Division, but shall not be allowed to play-up for more than one team in the same division.

(i.e. A player cannot play-up from a club’s C team to both their B team and their A team if both A and B teams are in the same division, keeping this provision of the current rules)

Proposal 7 –Move the existing paragraph about the maximum allowed number of play-ups to a separate rule of its own, to aid clarity. This moves the final section of the current rule 12.5.2 to a separate rule, 12.5.3, but keeps the same wording 

CREATE New Rule 12.5.3, for maximum number of play-ups:

A player shall not be allowed to play in more than a total of four team matches apart from those for the team for which registered. If the registration of a player is transferred to a higher ranked team any earlier play for a team ranked higher than that to which the player has been transferred shall count towards the new four.

As an extreme example:

A club has A and B teams in Division 1 and C, D and E teams in Division 2.  Player ‘X’ from the E team could play up for either, but not both, of the C and D teams and play up for either, but not both, of A and B teams.

a.    Player ‘X’ has now played-up 3 times for D team and 1 time for B team so cannot play-up again.

b.   Player ‘X’ is re-registered for the B team, after agreement by the Committee, so can now play up again 4 times for A team.

Note: All applications for re-registration will require Committee approval.

Proposal 10 –There has been some confusion over which ITTF rules apply to local league matches, especially since all of them are applied to national competitions in which some of our members take part. 

However the regulations for Local League matches are determined by the Local League Committee and the Committee think it would be sensible to add the following clarifications.               

CREATE a new Rule 11.1.1:

The ITTF time-out regulation shall not be used in the RDTTA league matches or other events organized by the Association.

CREATE a new Rule 11.1.2:

Play shall be continuous throughout a match except that any player is entitled to: -

(i) an interval of up to 1 minute between successive games of a match and

(ii) brief intervals for towelling after every 6 points from the start of each game and at the change of ends in the last possible game of a match.
