ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE
Torbay Academy 1, Kris Piwowar, Dan Barnett & Grzeg Wojtowicz, stretched their lead at the top of the First Division with a whitewash victory over basement side Halwell. A Shaun Gibbs maximum helped NA Batmen to a 7-3 victory over Torbay Academy 2. Both Jon Cheung & Kevin Nicholls were unbeaten for the NA Buzzards who won 8-2 at Brixham against the Gulls. Brixham Sharks were pushed all the way by Dawlish Aces: at 4-4 the Sharks’ Josh Millman completed his maximum with a 5 game win over Mark Burridge, then combined with Clive Banham to take the doubles and the match 6-4.
NA Batmen’s Shaun Gibbs
Torbay Academy 3 remain at the top of the 2nd Division following a narrow 6-4 win over Battlers, with Herbie Sage and Dan Webster-Hall gaining maximums for the Academy side. NA Eagles join the Academy at the top also with 58 points, following their 9-1 win over Taverners. Ed Crawford and Jim McIvor were unbeaten for the Eagles. Brixham Imports and Marldon Tykes played each other twice following an earlier postponement. The first match ended 5-5 but the Imports got the upper hand in the second encounter, winning 7-3, with Ian Saxby taking maximums in both matches. Marldon, who temporarily hit the bottom of the league, had a fine 6-4 victory at Brixham against the Pirates, but couldn’t beat the Pirates’ Martin Sharp.
NA Eagles' – Ed Crawford
Third Division leaders NA Hawks whitewashed Brixham Diamonds to extend their lead at the top. Torbay Academy 4 are still hot on the heels of the leaders following their 9-1 victory over NA Falcons, where Jakub Piwowar, yet to be beaten for the Academy side, and Ben Hoare both got maximums. Denbury Tykes also with a 9-1 win, defeated Hasbeens and trail the Academy side by just one point. Pat Darch & Stephen Metcalfe were unbeaten for the Tykes. A Bradley Hilton maximum for Brixham Dolphins helped his side to an 8-2 victory over Dawlish Diamonds.
Top of the table in the Fourth Division, Torbay Academy 5, had a week off which enabled second place NA Ospreys to close the gap to just 3 points following their narrow 6-4 win over NA Kites. In a cracking match that could have gone either way, it was left to Jeremy Beck and Luke Robins to clinch the win for the Ospreys, in the final doubles. NA Owls, with Travis Graham in fine form, defeated Torbay Academy 6, 7-3. The bottom of the table battle between Dawlish Drifters and Brixham Swifts, both sides without a win, went the way of the Swifts 6-4 thanks to a fine maximum from Marilyn Parton.
