A free week for most teams, with just a handful of rearranged matches played.
Second Division favourites Torbay Academy 2 were given a scare at Marldon as they went 2-0 down, with the Academy’s unbeaten to date, Warren Ngai, losing out to Helen Glover. Ed Thompson picked up a couple for Marldon but they ended up going down 3-7 to a fine all-round performance from the Academy 2 side who recovered well from their dodgy start, Ngai, Roy & Furgol each winning two singles. Brixham Pirates’ Nicholas Shipley was man of the match as two Brixham sides shared the spoils. The Trawlers winning the final doubles to claim a draw.
Helen Glover – Marldon
Two Division Three title pretenders battled it out at Marldon as the Marldon Tykes narrowly defeated NA Hawks despite a fine maximum from the Hawks’ Ben Swettenham. The Hawks in action twice this week bounced back in another 6-4 match, just defeating Torbay Academy 4. Pete Sercombe, who missed the match earlier in the week, with a couple of wins, Matt Cyron also with two for the Hawks. Craig Collins and David Rowsell winning two each for the Academy side. Sercombe & Cyron combining well to win the final doubles to get the win.

A top of the table clash in the fourth division saw Hasbeens lose their first match of the season as Torre Titans took over at the top following a fine 7-3 win at Bishopsteignton. Chris Harper with another maximum for the Titans
A reminder to all that the leagues’ Early Season Tournament is being held at the Torbay Leisure Centre on Sunday 4th November. Check the league website for more information and entry forms, which need to be with Tony Halse by Thursday 1st November.
