PRESS REPORT – Sunday 24^th Feb 

With Torbay Academy 1 well out in front at the top of the first division the battle appears to be for the runners up spot.  NA Batmen snatched that position back off club colleagues the Buzzards with a comfortable 8-2 win over Halwell, Shaun Gibbs the star man for the Batmen, Dave Wadling picking up Halwell’s two points. Brixham Sharks, still looking for a say towards the top, had Gordon Holmes in top form, as they saw off club mates the Gulls 8-2.

At the top of the second division Torbay Academy 2 are now pulling away with a 10 point lead over Newton Abbot Eagles, the Academy’s latest success a 9-1 win over Marldon. Esme Suarez & Warren Ngai were undefeated for the Academy. In another all Brixham clash the Pirates team of Stuart Shipley, Allen Pack and Martin Sharp whitewashed the Trawlers.  An Andy Tyrrell maximum helped his NA Eagles to a 7-3 win at Bishopsteignton over the Taverners.  Denbury Tykes, fighting hard to avoid the drop, found themselves up against a Jeremy Broad inspired NA Falcons, losing 3-7 but gaining ground on the Trawlers and Marldon sitting just above them in the table.

Torbay Academy 2 – Warren Ngai, Esme Suarez, Simon Furgol

NA Hawks, still hoping for a say in the third division title race, dropped valuable points as they were held by Dawlish Diamonds 5-5 despite a fine maximum from the Hawks’ Jackie Whitehorn.  In an all Torbay Academy clash a Liam Wall maximum for their fifth team helped secure a 7-3 victory over Academy 4.

Fourth Division leaders the Hasbeens had an 8-2 win over NA Kites but had to work hard for it. Mike Coxhead and Alan Tyrrell both had maximums for Hasbeens, but were beaten in the doubles by Josh Redfern & Lewis Short.  Torre Titans remain in the runners up position with an 8-2 win over Dawlish Drifters, Chris Harper unbeaten for the Torre side.  In an all Torre clash, the Tigers defeated the Panthers, also 8-2, Steve & Carl Tucker with maximums for the Tigers.

Nick Turner and William Bevan were unbeaten as leaders of the fifth division, Torbay Academy 7, defeated NA Vultures 8-2.  In an all Newton Abbot affair, the Ospreys comfortably defeated the Merlins 9-1, Benj Pead and Rob Ferguson with maximums for the Ospreys who remain in the runners up spot.
