PRESS REPORT – Sunday 27^th Jan

Match of the week was the encounter between the top two in the First Division, which saw Torbay Academy 1 extend their lead at the top. Patrik Cincala had an impressive maximum for the Academy in their 6-4 win, but their top man Kris Piwowar suffered his first defeat of the season at the hands of the Batmen’s Shaun Gibbs. The two teams vying for the bottom spot had vastly contrasting results, as Halwell overtook their rivals Brixham Gulls with a whitewash victory over NA Condors. Dave Wadling, Rod Sugden and Mick Atkinson were in fine form for the Halwell outfit. Meanwhile, at Brixham, the Gulls were at the wrong end of a whitewash, handed out by the impressive NA Buzzards, which left the Gulls 7 points adrift at the foot of the table.

NA Eagles have been knocked off the top of the Second Division following their first defeat of the season.  Torbay Academy 2’s fine 8-2 victory over the Eagles, sees them leapfrog them into the lead. Warren Ngai and Esme Suarez were again unbeaten for the Academy.  In a good week for the bottom teams, Brixham Trawlers picked up their first win of the season, with a 7-3 win against Marldon and move off the foot of the table.  Denbury Tykes drop to the bottom as they lost out 8-2 to an impressive Taverners, whose Colin Harrop and Geoff Read both had maximums.  Brixham Pirates, with Martin Sharp going well, defeated NA Falcons 7-3.

Marldon Tykes still lead the Third Division as they narrowly defeated rivals NA Hawks 6-4, with Chris Garner unbeaten for the Tykes. Torbay Academy 3 move up into second place, following Matt Cooper, Matt Frettsome and Lucas Bradshaw’s 10-0 demolition of Brixham Dolphins. Jamie McGuire, Kacper Piwowar and Liam Wall all secured maximums for Torbay Academy 5 in their 9-1 over NA Kestrels but they couldn’t complete the whitewash, losing the doubles.

Runaway leaders of the Fourth Division, the Hasbeens, are now 22 points clear, following a 9-1 win over NA Owls. Richard Fitzgerald and Alan Tyrrell were unbeaten for the Hasbeens. Torre Titans, in second place, lost 7-3 to Torbay Academy 6 despite a maximum from the Titans’ Chris Harper.  The bottom two sides, Dawlish Drifters and Torre Tigers, played out a 5-5 draw.

Fifth Division leaders, Torbay Academy 7, lost their first match of the season at the hands of a Rob Ferguson-inspired NA Ospreys, who was backed up well by Henry Greet and Benj Pead. The Ospreys won 7-3.  Second-placed Brixham Seals, with Ian Richards and Paul Beckley unbeaten, defeated NA Vultures 8-2.
