PRESS REPORT – Sunday 6th Oct
There were strong starts from the top two teams in the First Division. Last year’s champions kicked off with a tricky match against Brixham Sharks but came through 7-3 winners thanks to a Jakub Piwowar maximum. Runners up last time out, NA Batmen, secured a 10-0 victory over club mates the Condors. Yannick Tushingham, Dennis and Shaun Gibbs dropping just a handful of games in their whitewash victory. Brixham Gull’s Mick Mercer was undefeated as his Brixham Gulls defeated club mates the Pirates 8-2.

In the second division the youngsters from Torbay Academy 3 had an impressive 8-2 win over the Academy’s second team, Kacper Piwowar and Alessandro Mitranescu were both unbeaten. A Stephen Tyler maximum was not enough for victory in an all Tykes encounter as Marldon Tykes lost out to the Denbury Tykes 4-6. NA Falcons had Ed Crawford to thank for their narrow 6-4 victory over Marldon, his maximum was backed up with two from Louis Wilshire. A Szymon Furgol maximum helped his Torbay Academy 2 side to a share of the points with Brixham Trawlers. Ben Swettenham was in top form as NA Hawks came back from 3-1 down against club mates the Kestrels to win the final 6 sets and the match 7-3.

It looks like there is going to be quite a battle in the Third Division with strong starts from several teams. NA Owls 10-0 victory over Torre Panthers, with Rowan Bayliss, Josh Redfern & Matt Cyron all looking sharp, was matched by Torbay Academy 4’s whitewash over Brixham Dolphins, Ed Damanskas, Tim Shears and Craig Collins going well for the Academy. The Hasbeens also looked impressive as they saw off the challenge from NA Kites just dropping the one set, maximums here for Mike Coxhead and Alan Tyrrell. Torre Titans, with Chris Harper continuing where he finished last season, unbeaten throughout, unsurprisingly started with a maximum for Torre Titans in their 7-3 victory over NA Harriers. A Neville Cregan maximum helped the Torbay Academy 5 team to a 7-3 victory over Brixham Seals. In an all Academy match, brought forward a couple of weeks, Academy 4 defeated Academy 5, 6-4, despite a fine maximum from the fifth team’s David Crowley.

Newcomers to the league, The Grove from Totnes, started their league campaign in the fourth division with a fine 10-0 victory over Dawlish Dynamos. James Rodger, Jeff Cornish and Nigel Langley doing the damage for the Grove. Torquay Academy 6 have started well with two 8-2 wins, Jeremy Hollings and Jean Neafcy to the fore in both encounters against Torbay Academy 7 and NA Vultures. William Whittington and Nick Turner both recorded maximums in Torbay Academy 7’s 9-1 victory over Brixham Swifts. NA Ospreys, with Benj Pead and Henry Greet unbeaten, defeated club mates the Merlins 7-3.
