PRESS REPORT – Sunday 8th Mar

NA Batmen’s whitewash victory over clubmates NA Eagles takes them to the top of the first division table where they should now remain. Dennis and Shaun Gibbs together with Josh Millman secured the victory with relative ease, Gergely Kiss was the closest Eagle to gaining a point, just losing out to Josh Millman in the fifth.

The other two matches in this division were at Halwell both being 5-5 draws. NA Eagles, also playing twice this week, were their first visitors, Halwell letting a 4-2 lead slip. It was the hosts, Halwell, who came from 2-4 down against their old adversaries, Brixham Gulls, to snatch the draw. The Gulls’ Mick Mercer had to work really hard for his maximum.

Helen Glover was again the star for Marldon as they eased passed Torbay Academy 2 to open up a two point lead over the Academy’s 3^rd team at the top of the second division. Although this narrow 6-4 victory for Marldon gives the edge in the race for the title to Torbay Academy 3 as they have a match in hand.  The Taverners’ Colin Harrop was unbeaten as the ageing but improving Bishopsteignton outfit defeated NA Hawks 8-2.  Brixham Trawlers kept their interest in the title with an excellent 8-2 win at NA Falcons, Ian Saxby was unbeaten for the Trawlers. Steve Tyler was on top form as he helped Marldon Tykes to a narrow 6-4 victory over NA Kestrels.

The leaders of the third division, Torre Titans, were held to a draw by Hasbeens despite another fine maximum from the Titans’ Chris Harper. This gave the opportunity to NA Owls to take over the leadership, which they did with an emphatic whitewash victory over struggling Brixham Dolphins. Rowan Bayliss, Josh Redfern and Matt Cyron were well on top throughout as the Owls hit the top of the table again. Brian Pengelly and Joseph Edwards were unbeaten as Brixham Seals defeated the NA Kites 6-4. Torbay Academy 5, Neville Cregan, David Crowley and John Fowler, were rarely troubled as they whitewashed NA Harriers.

There was a shock at the top of the fourth division as leaders, The Grove, lost 3-7 to a Jasem Abu Ali inspired NA Vultures.  An excellent Chris Tudball maximum were the only points Dawlish Dynamos got against high flying Torbay Academy 6, who keep the pressure on The Grove at the top. Not out of the race for the title Dawlish Diamonds picked up a fine 9-1 win against the NA Ospreys. Peter Curtis and Prabhu Kashap were unbeaten for the Diamonds. Brixham Swifts, still looking for their first win, fought all the way against NA Merlins but could not muster a point as David Olver, Marc Winstanley and Eve James were in no mood to help them out!
