PRESS REPORT – Sunday 14^th Nov

There were whitewash victories for the top two Newton Abbot teams in the First Division.  NA Batmen lead the table, with Dennis Gibbs, Mark Burridge and Naomi Jackson returning from Halwell A with all 9 points. Second placed, with a game in hand, NA Buzzards defeated club mates NA Condors. Kevin Nicholls, Lauren Loosemore and Herbie Sage not dropping a leg in the Buzzard’s victory.  Stuart Shipley, stepping up from the second division, had an excellent maximum for Torbay Academy 1 but his three points were all the Academy got as Halwell B beat them 6-3.  NA Eagles narrowly defeated Brixham Sharks 5-4 despite a fine maximum from the Sharks’ Clive Banham.

Ed Thompson (NA Condors) v Kevin Nicholls (NA Buzzards)

Torre Titans go marching on at the top of the second division table with a 6-3 victory over NA Raptors, but they didn’t have it all their own way as the Raptors’ Paul Hine was unbeaten.  Jim McIvor was undefeated as the NA Falcons beat Brixham Gulls 6-3. It was a busy week for the NA Raptors who ended the week with an excellent 6-3 victory over the Taverners, Paul Hine with his second maximum of the week was well supported by Huw Darch and Ed Moffatt.

Mike Dummett (NA Falcons) v Steve Tyler (Brixham Gulls)

There was an excellent third division match between NA Kestrels and Torre Panthers which saw the Kestrels recover from 3-1 down to take the last set and win 5-4 despite an excellent maximum from Torre’s Alan Tyrrell. Ben Swettenham’s first appearance of the season for NA Hawks was a vital part of their narrow 5-4 victory over The Grove at Totnes. To round off a good week for Newton Abbot teams in the third division NA Ospreys beat Dawlish 6-3, Henry Greet unbeaten for the Ospreys.

Andy Millman (NA Kestrels) v Chris Garner (Torre Panthers)

Torre Thunder closed the gap at the top of the fourth division with an impressive 7-2 victory over NA Kites, new signing Charun Tatom and Rob Burridge with maximums for the Thunder. In an all Newton Abbot encounter the NA Harriers defeated NA Vultures 7-2 with both Mike Halse and Keith Haslam undefeated for the Harriers.  Nick Kitchen’s fine start to league table tennis continued with his first maximum as NA Merlins defeated Brixham Seals 7-2
