Champions, NA Batmen, saw off club mates NA Eagles 8-1, Dennis Gibbs and Naomi Jackson with maximums, reserve Mike Dummett chipped in with 2 fine wins. The Eagles’ Ed Thompson preventing the whitewash. It was a similar score at Torbay Academy as their top side defeated Brixham Sharks. David Davies (NA Condors) v Dennis Gibbs (NA Batmen)
All the second division encounters were close so it looks as though most teams will be very competitive this season. Chris Harper and his Torre Titans team have stepped up a division and started well, Chris with a maximum as the Titans defeated Torbay Academy(2) 5-4. The same score line saw NA Raptors defeat Brixham Gulls while NA Owls went one better beating Brixham Trawlers 6-3 with Giles Tushingham picking up a maximum.
NA Hawks, disappointed about being relegated and will be tough to beat in the third Division, started their campaign with an 8-1 victory over NA Ospreys. David Doxsey and Doug Morgan were undefeated, a fine victory by the Osprey’s Andrew Davies preventing the whitewash. Chris Garner, Torre Panthers, recorded a maximum as his side defeated Torbay Academy (4) 7-2. Dave Pearson had a good night personally for the Grove, remaining unbeaten, but his side went down 6-3 to a fine all round performance from NA Kestrels. Torbay Academy (3) had a narrow 5-4 victory over Dawlish thanks to a fine maximum from Anne-Marie Gibbs.
David Doxsey (NA Hawks) v Andrew Davies (NA Ospreys)
The only whitewash victory in the first week was from the youngsters at Torbay Academy (5). Nathan Mitranescu, William Whittington and Igor Sniegocki were too strong for the Brixham Seals and look excellent candidates for the fourth division title. The other two matches were both close. A Robert Excell maximum saw his Torre Panthers home 5-4 against Torbay Academy (6) and in an all Newton Abbot affair the Harriers defeated the Merlins 5-4 thanks to a Keith Haslam maximum.
Four matches in progress at Newton Abbot TTC
