With just five rounds of matches to go NA Buzzards have a nine point lead over their Newton Abbot club mates, NA Batmen, at the top of the first division table. Patrik Cincala was back and playing exceptionally well for Torbay Academy 1, but his maximum were the only three points the Academy picked up against the leaders, the Buzzards’ Sonja Ryland, Lauren Loosemore and Kevin Nicholls winning 6-3. NA Batmen with Dennis Gibbs and Mark Burridge unbeaten, defeated Halwell B 8-1 to close the gap at the top. A Mick Mercer maximum helped Halwell A to a narrow 5-4 victory over NA Eagles. NA Condors beat Brixham Sharks 7-2, both David Davies and Bob Parkins were unbeaten for the Condors.

The top of the second division clash between NA Falcons and NA Owls was an excellent close and tense affair. The Owls’ Giles Tushingham had to save match points against Mike Dummett to preserve his 100% win record, but his effort was not enough for the Owls as they lost out 5-4 to a fine allround team performance from the Falcons. In another close encounter Torbay Academy 2, with a Ben Hoare maximum, defeated NA Raptors 5-4.

Similarly to the second division there was a cracking match between the top two teams in the third division. The leaders, Torre Panthers came from behind to defeat second placed NA Hawks 5-4 thanks to another excellent maximum from Chris Garner. Jason Prescott, yet to be beaten this season, was again undefeated, but his Dawlish side lost 6-3 to NA Kestrels who keep the pressure on the top two. A Peter Moretta maximum helped his Torbay Academy 4 team defeat the Grove 5-4, but Elsa Perry’s maximum wasn’t enough for Torbay Academy 3 as they went down 4-5 to NA Ospreys.

Charum Tatom and Robert Excell were unbeaten for Torre Thunder whose 8-1 victory over NA Merlins was enough to take them to the top of the fourth division table. The Thunder are level on points with Torbay Academy 5 who defeated NA Harriers 7-2, Will Whittington with another maximum for the Academy side. NA Kites, trailing in third, picked up a few points on the leaders with two wins. Firstly a 6-3 victory over Torbay Academy 6 followed by a 7-2 win over NA Harriers, maximums from the Kites’ Derek Stratton and Ivor Copley. The battle of the basement was a surprisingly one sided affair as NA Vultures blew away Brixham Seals 9-0. Andy Guy, Anton Shirt and Ethan Lee in fine form for the Vultures.
