Match Report
After a Doubles Shield defeat the week before, Trawlers were seeking revenge on a Marldon team flying high in Division 2.
It was a well fought contest and at 2-0 up, the home side were looking good. But then three wins from Ed Thompson and Helen Glover brought Marldon ahead 3-2.
Nick Williamson was too strong for Dave Atkin who was getting back to speed after a hip injury to bring it level again.
But the dynamic duo of Thompson and Glover took charge again to force a 3-5 lead with Helen gaining yet another 'no fear' maximum and well deserved too!
Alan Maynard overcame a resistant Dave Atkin to bring it to 4-5.
The Brixham doubles duo of Maynard and Simon Hopkins were staring at a straight sets defeat, but managed to claw it back to 2-2 before going down to Helen Parton and the intelligent play of George Breyley 7-11 in the fifth.
The win puts Marldon yet again in a very strong position even though the four points gained by Trawlers sees them joint top but with extra games played.
Who will win Div 2? It's anyone's guess!!
Alan.
