Match Report
The first of our two fixtures against Dawlish Renegades took place at the Village Hall last night. Bishopsteignton is the current home for both teams so no extra travelling involved!
Taverners took the honours this time with a comprehensive win by 9 sets to 1 after an enjoyable match with friendly and sporting opponents so keeping up the pressure on leaders Torre Vikings.
Although the Renegades have 6 players registered, Captain Prabhu has had a difficult time getting teams out due to availability issues and last night was no exception. In addition to Prabhu, one of his few regulars Laurie Girling did play but Pete Chadwick played up from Division 4 where Dawlish Doubtfuls top the table at present.
Having said, both Laurie and Pete fought hard and played well and we had to be wary at different times to gain wins.
Prabhu was a different proposition. P, having taken a game off Colin, deservedly beat me in 4. I may have started in good style by winning the first game but as the set progressed, Prabhu got better and better and basically defeated me at my own patience game! Should I have changed my tactics a bit? Perhaps so...... anyway we play our reverse fixture on the 22nd February.
Colin and Martin (Player of the Match again!) won their 3 sets and Martin and I won the doubles. Taverners remain undefeated in the doubles in the 9 matches played so far which cannot have happened to us before in a season?!
Best of luck to the Renegades for the rest of the season and meanwhile Taverners move on to play the Harriers next Monday again at the VH.
