Week 10 REPORT, Week commencing 23 November 2015

Premier Division – DRS – Duncan Taylor         Duncan.Taylor@essex.gov.uk

Week 10 Three teams recording 9-0 victories this week. Rawreth A, Hullbridge A and Thorpe Bay B over Lentern B, Lentern A and Hadleigh Forum respectively. Three wins of note in those games for young Sam Hume over three experienced campaigners from Lentern A.  Another comprehensive win came for Thorpe Bay A as they beat Castle Point 8-1, Chris Jacob with the solitary win for Castle Point against John Poysden.  There was a closer affair as Rawreth B beat Rawreth D 6-3. 2 wins a piece for Dave Calleja, Keith Phillips and Bruce Kettle, none of whom could get the better of the inform Reece Seddon.  The tightest match of the week came as Rayleigh Mill took on Hullbridge B. Richard Hutchinson won all 3 for Hullbridge while Minda Sinkus and Peter Radford each won 2 for the Millers.    Duncan

Week 10 A close fought week with 4 out of the 5 results being won by a slight 5-4 margin.  Customs A leapfrog Hullbridge C to go back to the top thanks to a 5-4 win over title rivals Hockley A. Roy Thomas with 3 was the mainstay of the Customs score, but with Hockley having to play up Stuart Adshead from the C team it was always going to be a difficult task. Matt Nariel and Dave Colwill did well to score two each for the Hockley home team, but with Stuart losing 11-8 in the fifth to Dave Morgan, the Customs men proved too strong, leaving Hockley 7 points behind but with a game in hand.  I have not received the result for Runnymede v Hullbridge C this week, but Hullbridge are now 9 points behind Customs with two games in hand on level points with Rawreth E (who have played a game more) and who did not have a match this week.  Hadleigh Forum B bucked the trend and won 7-2 against Hockley B sending them to the bottom of the table. Dave Woolmer scored a maximum for the Forum, with good wins for Liam Squirrell in five over Tony Jacks and Keith Abbott over Anthon Ranjit-Singh making up the Hockley points.  Canvey A also had a 5-4 victory over Invicta A in a game where no-one was unbeaten. Terry Giddens and Ray Wilson for Canvey and Steve Marr and Neil Daines for Invicta all scored 2 each, with the match all tied at  4-4 going to the final match, Terry Giddens managed to win in a close 5 setter against Michael Piper 11-6, 6-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-8 to take the match for the Islanders.  With Chris Crooks returning from a back injury, Lentern C had a good 5-4 win over Hadleigh Forum C, with Mike Grout unbeaten for the visitors. Dave Thomas and Graham Farmer scored two each for the Forum team but Tony Mace was unable to add to the score. Finally, Lentern D secured their second victory of the season, and lifted themselves from the bottom of the table, with a 5-4 win over the Lentern E team. Peter Pond and Peter Lucraft scored two each for the D team with the decisive final point added by veteran Dave Kirston. Wayne Framer was unlucky to end up on the losing side scoring 3 on the night for the Lentern E side.    Barrie

Week 10 This week, two of the top three met when Castle Point B entertained Canvey B. Castle proved generous hosts, allowing the visitors a 6 – 3 win. Talbot Wiseman won all his games for Canvey, and he was well supported by two wins from Tony Westwell. Keith Neville was the pick of the home side’s players, winning two of his three.  Meanwhile, the clubs’ C teams played the reverse fixture, with Canvey C hosting Castle Point C in a bottom of the table clash. The outcome was exactly the same – a 6 – 3 win for the Canvey team. No one player was unbeaten, with the home side’s Gordon Johnstone, Archie Blackburn and Steve Parker each winning two games. A special mention should be made of Castle’s John Beddow who fought hard for the visitors beating Gordon in fifth set. However, the performance of the night was Richard Riebold’s who fought back from two sets down to Steve, to win in fifth.  In a close match, Basildon Hospital came away from their visit to Hockey C with a 5 – 4 win, thanks to a maximum from Kevin Smart. Mike Smith got their other two wins. Tony Vassallo’s two wins were the major contribution for the home team.  A hat trick for Rawreth G’s Botond Meze made sure his team overcame home side RESSC 6 – 3. He was assisted with two wins from Aaron Crisp. Robert Skews pair was the best of the RESSC players    David
