Tackleway F stalwart Phil Talbot emerged victorious from finals day at the Woodward Cup hosted by Hollington TTC on Saturday 25th March. In his semi-final he beat Pete Shoesmith (Hollington C) 21-13, 21-13, having received 5 points in each game. In the other semi-final Trevor Fountain (Hollington D) defeated Chris Floyd (also Tackleway F) 21-12, 21-13, having received an identical 5 point advantage.
The final saw Phil triumph over Trevor by 21-12, 21-14: as both players were on the same handicap each game started at 0-0.
Mike Funnell, President of the Hastings & District table Tennis Association and Tackleway chair, made the presentations.
At the same venue on Sunday 2nd April, Tackleway G's exciting young talent John Quintos emerged from the Hastings Closed tournament with two trophies. He was beaten in three straight sets by Oli Matthews (Bexhillians D) in the final of the Juniors competition 11-7, 11-4, 11-3. However he returned to beat Kevin Long (Hollington D) in four sets in the Division 3 final 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9.
