Results

Division 1 saw a hard fought match when Minehead visited Stogumber.  The home team scored consistently throughout with David Bryant top scoring with 8 points, closely followed by Martyn Summerell with 7.  Mervyn Hillier added a valuable 5 points as he seeks to regain his top form after his return from retirement.  Marcus Short was the doubles specialist for the evening scoring a further 6 doubles points.  Stogumber ended the victors with 26 points.  Minehead played hard and Toby Kerslake managed the only maximum of the evening to be awarded player of the match.  The only other singles points came from Joe Camp who added 5.  The doubles were quite evenly contested but the 5 points scored left the visitors with a total of 19 points.

Highest team score of the week went to Shooting Stars when they hosted White Horse.  It was Geoff Williams £4.40 rubbers that led the way for the home team scoring the only maximum of the  evening and taking the player of the match award.  An excellent 7 singles points were added by both Martin Shoots and Robin Arkell.  The double were evenly contested and a further 7 points gave the Stars a final score of 30 points.  This match score has lifted Shooting Stars to equal third place in the Division one league table.  White Horse put up considerable resistance and Colin White played well to gain 5 points and Ian Rew  added a further 4 singles points.  With hard fought doubles sets, a valuable 6 points were gained to give White Horse a total of 15 points.

Division 2 saw the leading four teams in action against each other this week.  Current leaders Tonys Troopers visited Barn Boys and it was the visiting team that played most consistently throughout the match.  Steve Palmer top scored with 6 points for Barn Boys with Graham Lamacraft and Andy Fay both adding 4 points each.  A further 4 doubles points were scored to leave the 'Boys' with 18 points.  The main attack from Troopers came from Sifa Vea who scored the only maximum of the evening for his player of the match award.  Tony Burrows was close behind with an excellent 8 points.  Almost total dominance by Troopers in the doubles with a further 8 points gave them victory with a final tally of 26 points, which enabled them to increase their lead at the top of division two.

Mad Batters managed a narrow home win against Roys Boys.  Consistent singles points from Jamie Short with 6, Trevor Short with 5 and Hamish Cuthbertson with 4 points.  It was however a maximum score of 9 doubles points that won the duel, giving mad Mad Batters a final score of 24 points.  Roys Boys top two players - Barry and Roy Hooper both scored maximums with Barry being awarded player of the match.  With a disappointing 2 doubles points for the team the total tally only rose to 20 points and proved insufficient to avoid the narrow defeat.

The end result of these key division two matches was ... no change in the league positions.  Everything is looking very close at the top of the table.  As the season goes into the second half it looks as though it could be a grandstand finish between these teams.
