Division 1– It was an all Alcombe affair when Minehead A took on 1stDivision hopefuls, Basement Dwellers. For the home team it was Toby Kerslake that was the star of the show as his extra thick bat saw off all challengers to gain a maximum and the player of the match award. The remainder of the singles points were scored by Joe Camp with an excellent 7. Doubles points were harder to come by with only 4 added to give Minehead a final score of 20 points.  Basement Dwellers had to fight hard for their points and Vince Court’s bat twiddling managed to gain 7 points. It was hard going for team mates Mike Vickery with 5 and Paul Rees with 3 singles points. It was in fact only the doubles that saved Basement Dwellers from defeat and their maximum took their final tally to 24 points and a narrow victory.

House Martyns entertained Mad Batters where, yet again, it was the dead bat of captain Scott Milton that triumphed for the home team to gain 6 points and the player of the match award. Joe Burt also scored 6 and Jack Lancaster a further 2 singles points. With only one doubles game played House Martyns took the 3 points on offer. As Mad Batters were only able to field two players on the evening a further 15 forfeit points were allocated, giving House Martyns a winning score of 32 points. With Mad Batters minus a player it was a case of damage limitation. The only success came in the singles where Marcus Short scored 5 and Jasper Pye 3 points. With Mad Batters ending the evening with 8 points they also slipped to the foot of the Division 1 table.

Division 2– It must have been the personalised shirts of home team Drifters that made an impression on their junior visitors Hawks. Drifters played both well and consistently with Liz Fletcher leading with 7 points. Mike Pretty and David Smith added 6 singles points apiece. In the doubles it was again Trevor Stockdale that worked his magic, scoring maximum points. Final score for Drifters – 28 points. For visitors, Hawks, all the singles points were scored by aging teen Mark Scyner. Mark scored the only maximum of the evening and received a well-deserved player of the match award. With a modest 4 doubles points, the match ended with 13 points for Hawks.

Allsorts were on form again when they were visited by Barn Boys. Player of the match was the ambidextrous Sifa Vea who scored the only maximum of the match. Roy Pointer continued his point-scoring ways with 6, supported by Mike Lawrie with another 5. Barbara Parker was the doubles specialist where her unbroken season’s record continued with another doubles maximum. This gave Allsorts the winning score of 29 points. Barn Boys couldn’t fully get into their stride against the attacking home team. Captain Graham Lamacraft had the most success with 7 points and Steve Palmer added an excellent 6, plus a further 2 singles points from Andy Fay. There was less success in the doubles against such formidable opposition and with 2 points scored Barn Boys returned home with a total of 17 points for the evening.
