Division 1– House Martyns flew into an early lead in their match against Gnomads. It was again captain Scott Milton’s dead bat that beat everybody, scoring another maximum plus the player of the match award. Joe Burt played another good supporting role with 7 points, and a further 2 added by Jack Lancaster. There was less success in the doubles where their 3 points brought House Martyns’ final score to 21 points. Gnomads recovered from their slow start and played steadily throughout the evening. Martin Rant scored 7, Nigel Foster 6 and Eddie Ferris a further 3 singles points.  It was however in the doubles where the match was won with Gnomads scoring a maximum to win with 25 points.

White Horse never left the starting gate when they hosted Basement Dwellers. From the off it was the visitors that made all the running although David Bryant battled hard for his 4 singles points. Ian Rew added 1 more, plus a solitary doubles point, to end the match for White Horse on 6 points. A full-strength Basement Dwellers team galloped away from the start with Vince Court and Mike Vickery jockeying for the player of the match award. In the end it was Mike that won the award by a short head. Paul Rees added a further 6 points before the team scored maximum doubles points as they bolted for the finish line. Basement Dwellers only just failed to achieve a maximum match score but entered the winners enclosure with 33 points.

Minehead A entertained Shooting Stars at Alcombe. It was Toby Kerslake that dominated the evening with his extra thick bat. It is rumoured to have been made from his Mum’s breadboard - which is why he can get so much slice on the ball. Toby scored the only maximum of the evening to receive the player of the match award. David Veale had a marathon battle against Robin Arkell to gain 3 valuable points and Terry Cadman added one more. With 4 doubles points Minehead A had a final tally of 17 points. Shooting Stars played steadily throughout. Martin Shoots and Geoff Williams each scored 6 points and Robin Arkell a valuable 5. With 6 more doubles points Shooting Stars won the match with 23 points and by doing so shot to the top of division 1.

Division 2– It was over the hill for Space invaders as they journeyed to play against Roy’s boys. As with previous matches it was a game of contrasts for the ’Boys’ as both Diana Garner and Barry Hooper scored maximums, with Barry getting the player of the match award. Roy Hooper added another 5 singles points, but the team had no success in the doubles. The final score for Roy’s Boys ended at 23 points. Space invaders also played a game of contrasts. Singles points were hard to come by for the visitors with Jim Stiles and Matt Lawrence scoring 3 points apiece. It was in the doubles that the team excelled with a maximum score. This was however not enough to land the victory as Space invaders ended the match with 15 points.
