Division 1– Basement Dwellers maintained the pressure at the top of the table in their bid for the division 1 title. This week they entertained Shooting Stars. Player of the match, Vince Court, scored a maximum, as did Mike Vickery. Paul Rees added 7 singles points before the home team closed out the doubles with another maximum. This gave Basement Dwellers a final score of 34 points for the evening. For Shooting Stars Geoff Williams continued his comeback after his recent ‘break’ to top score with 5 points. Another singles point was added by Martin Shoots. The visitors played hard throughout the match and gained a further 3 points in the doubles to give Shooting Stars a final tally of 9 points to secure their division 1 place for next season.

House Martyns completed their final match of the season when they played Gnomads. Captain Scott Milton led the way for the home team with 7 points. The remaining 6 singles points were added by Geoff Williams who substituted for the injured Joe Burt. There was further success in the doubles where Jack Lancaster provided sterling support to help his team to gain 8 points. This gave House Martyns a final score of 21 points. Gnomads provided tough opposition and player of the match, Martin Rant, and Nigel Foster each scored maximums, with George Harrow adding a further 3 singles points. It was however their 5 doubles points that proved to be the winning margin for Gnomads when they ended the match with 26 points.

Division 2– It was a game of ‘lads vs the boys’ when Hawks took on Roy’s Boys. Captain Mark Scyner led the way for Hawks with the only maximum of the evening, to receive the player of the match award. Brothers, Alfie and Nathaniel Southam, each added 3 singles points and helped contribute a further 3 doubles points. Final score for Hawks was 18 points. For the ‘Boys’ it was Diana Garner who top scored with 8, and Roy Hooper adding an excellent 7 singles points. It was again down to the doubles to decide the match and Roy’s Boys prevailed with 6 points to achieve a narrow victory with a match total of 21 points.

Allsorts aimed to end their season on a high when they played Drifters in their final match of this year’s league. The ambidextrous Sifa Vea was awarded player of the match for the only maximum of the evening. Mike Lawrie just missed his maximum with 8 and was closely followed by Roy Pointer with 7 singles points. Barbara Parker was the doubles specialist and ended her season in style as the home team scored another doubles maximum. The final score for Allsorts was a convincing 33 points which was enough to secure the team the top spot, and the division 2 championship for this season. Drifters too were playing their final match of the season, but it was destined to be a hard task against the top team. Andrew Miles and Mike Pretty scored 3 singles points apiece with Liz Fletcher adding a further 2. In the doubles, Trevor Stockdale was the specialist, however, the tough opposition restricted Drifters to 3 doubles points which gave them a final match score of 11
