The Wilmott Cup champions from Central London, Tianyi Yu and Ching Jay Law

The CLTTL entered three teams in Table Tennis England’s English Leagues Cup Competitions. All three teams fought their way through to the finals hosted by Draycott & Long Eaton TTC.

In the Wilmott Cup for senior men, Central London A won, but only after they saw off a comeback by Norwich B, who recovered from 2-0 down to force a decider.

Tianyi Yu (Fusion) put Central London ahead with a 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-7) win over Chris Cockburn, and it was 2-0 after Ching Jay Law (Highbury) overcame Shun Hei Chang 3-0 (8, 8, 7).

The Norwich comeback began in the doubles, as they triumphed in three (2, 8, 7), and Cockburn then levelled it up with a 3-1 (13-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-6) victory over Law.

Yu versus Chang would decide the destination of the title, and it went to Yu with a 3-0 (8, 8, 6) win. As memory serves, this is the first time the CLTTL has won the Willmott Cup.

Central London B, Jonathan Lancry and Abdullah Ubaidullah (both from Morpeth), defeated Wembley & Harrow 3-0 to take third place. Jonathan and Abdullah lost extremely narrowly to the finalist in their group, so it was very close of Central vs Central final. Emil Erekov played the qualification event instead of Abdullah, and Bryan Kwan played the qualification event instead of  Tianyi. They are also part of the success as during qualification, they eliminated very strong players, in particular Horsham & Crawley with top 50/100 players.

In the JM Rose Bowl for senior women, Jane Ji, Maliha Baig and Kimmy Pui Lin Lai-Brown (all from Morpeth) came fifth out of eight in the finals.

Congratulations to all the CLTTL players and to Fabien Mauroy, for organising our entries.
