Hartlepool Westbourne A closed the gap at the top of Division 1 of the Cleveland and District Summer Table Tennis League last week when they defeated the team in second place, Nunthorpe B, by 7-3.
The star of the match was Jack Jacomb who scored a hat trick for Westbourne. His closest win was against David Williams 11-7 in the decider. Jimmy Scope played an important role for Westbourne by beating Mike Fenby and John Goulding before losing 12-10 in the decider to Williams. Williams produced most of the opposition for Nunthorpe also with a win against Phil Webster 11-7 in the decider as well as beating Jimmy Scope.
In the second Division the team in 4th place Beaumont B had a 10-0 victory over Ormesby H and a 9-1 win against Ormesby G. Malcolm Noble and Jane Lynas scored hat-tricks in both matches whilst Sam Hugill won three against Ormesby H and Philip Lowther two in the Ormesby G match.
Northfield A remain top of the division by just 2 points with 62, Nunthorpe B have closed the gap with 60 points while Westbourne and Beaumont are six points behind on 56, Beaumont are in 4th place on 55 points, however Northfield have a match in hand on Nunthorpe, Westbourne and Beaumont.
