Beaumont Nomads A closed the gap at the top of Division 1 of the Cleveland and District Table Tennis Summer League when they defeated Ormesby A by seven sets to three.
Kevin Linsley, Stephen Baines and Ian Plummer all scored two for Beaumont whilst Ben Savage for Ormesby was the star of the match scoring a hat trick. The closest set of the evening was when Linsley beat David Noutch at 11-7 in the decider. Savage’s hat trick was scored with straight games win over Linsley and then 3-1 victories over Steven Baines and Ian Plummer.
Westbourne A lost ground in their bid to stay in the Championship race when they were held to a draw by Nunthorpe A at 5-5. Jimmy Scope was the star of the match for Westbourne A scoring a hat trick and combining with Phil Webster to win the doubles.
For Nunthorpe, Dave Williams and Glenn Hodgson both won two. This match was a hard fought battle with Scope scoring his hat trick after beating Williams 11-6 in the decider.
Phil Webster won one for Westbourne A with a victory over Mike Fenby at 11-8 in the decider and the doubles were won by Westbourne A at 11-6 in the 5th game.
These results close the gap at the top of the table to just 5 points as Ormesby, after 6 matches, are on 43 and Beaumont on 38. Westbourne remain in the frame on 29 points with a match in hand.
