MATCH REPORTS WEEKENDING 13 SEPTEMBER 2019
Ormesby A moved a step closer to retaining the Division 1 Championship of the Cleveland and District Summer Table Tennis League when they defeated the club's B team by 7 sets to 3 in last week's fixtures.
Karl Shaw was the star of the Ormesby team scoring a hat trick whilst Michael Young won two. The match was a very hard fought contest. William Lim provided most of the opposition with a straight sets victory over Ryan Nassau and victory by three games to one against Young. Lim went the distance with Shaw before losing 11-5 in the decider.
Eve Witterick was on good form for Ormesby B beating Nassau by 13-11 in the decider. Ormesby's third player, Katie Bates, also produced a good performance but without recording any wins. She did push Nassau all the way before losing 12-10 in the fifth.
Ormesby's main opponents Beaumont Nomads A kept their interest in the Championship race by beating one of their rivals Hartlepool Westbourne A by seven sets to three. Steven Baines was the star of the match scoring a hat trick, whilst Kevin Linsley won two. Jimmy Scope produced the best performance for Westbourne winning two sets before losing to Steven Baines by three games to one.
The closest set was a win for Stuart Park for Beaumont over Phil Webster at 11-9 in the decider.
These results in which both of the leading teams dropped three sets kept the League Table status quo at the top with Ormesby having 111 points from 15 matches whilst Beaumont A trail by 23 points but have a match in hand. Beaumont A have 88.
Beaumont's victory over Westbourne reduce the Hartlepool team's chances of Championship honours as they have now 72 points from 13.
