MATCH REPORTS WEEKENDING 20 SEPTEMBER 2019
A CLOSE FINISH IS ASSURED IN Division 2 of the Cleveland & District Table Tennis League as two of the top 3 teams, Beaumont B and Westfield B, have to play in the final fixture of the season.

In last week’s matches, Nunthorpe B retained their position at the top of the table with two 10-0 victories at the expense of Ormesby Wheelers and Ormesby E.  Barbara Kearney and Robert Evans scored a hat trick in both matches whilst John Hanson joined the players with 3 wins against the Wheelers and David Hildreth against Ormesby E.  These 20 points keep Nunthorpe B at the top of the table with 146 points, having completed their fixtures.

Beaumont Accountancy Nomads B had 2 victories last week 10-0 against Ormesby E with hat tricks from Geoff Howe, Jane Lynas and Bruce Lowther but then, they visited Ormesby D when 3 points were dropped as Beaumont Accountancy Nomads B won by 7 sets to 3 despite a hat trick from Geoff Howe.  Tom Hand did most of the damage with 2 wins against John Lynas and Barry Pearson whilst John McCullow beat Jane Lynas in 5 games.  Tom Hand’s victory against Barry Pearson also went to 5.

Westbourne B kept their interest in the Championship with a 10-0 win against Ormesby Hopes Garry but dropped 2 points when visiting Ormesby E, winning by only 8 sets to 2.  Against the Ormesby E team.  Lee Kelly, Mike Purdy and Roy Horseman all scored hat tricks against the Hopes.  Gary Pearson scored a hat trick with David Hutchinson and Jason Lloyd scoring 2 each whilst Dave Reeve scored 2 for Ormesby E.

In the final match, Beaumont Accountancy Nomads B need to win against Westbourne B by 6-4 to clinch the title.  A 5 all draw would take them to level points with Nunthorpe B and a countback would need to be calculated to decide the winner.  Westbourne B would need to win 10-0 to take the title.  9-1 would result in a countback with Nunthorpe B.
