With the Bristol Nomads v Cwmbran Colts match postponed, YMCA Preachers had the opportunity to forge a lead in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League. The Preachers won their match 20-11 against Blaenavon Aces, who were hindered by an injury to Jon Allen, withdrawing after playing one match. It was left to the Aces Peter Sniezek who despite his player of the match performance with 3 wins could not prevent his side losing.
The other match in Div. One involved the 3rd and 4th placed sides Cwmbran Blues and Cwmbran Aztecs, who were again missing their number one player Tony Collins. Despite this the Aztecs fought all the way to narrowly lose 20-18. For the Blues Mark Farrow produced a player of the match performance with 3 wins. For the Aztecs Mark Edmunds and particularly, John Spencer, had very good wins over the higher ranked Roger Grech.
In Division Two, Cwmbran Panthers extended their lead at the top by beating Blaenavon Bulldogs 23-9. Once again a player of the match performance from Mike Blatchford guided his side to a comfortable win, however, he was taken all the way by the Bulldogs' Callum Hunt, having to come back from 2 sets down.
The side trying to chase down the leaders are Cwmbran Dynamos and they lost ground despite a 20-13 win against Cwmbran Fellows. The highlight of this match was provided by the Dynamos' Alex Jones who inflicted only the 2nd defeat of the season for the Fellows' Wayne Ford in 5 close sets.
The final match in Div. Two saw Cwmbran Devils seeking to cement their 3rd place. This they did with an emphatic 27-5 win over Cwmbran Eccentrics who could not overcome the absence of Richard Lownsbrough. For the Devils Colin Scott took the player of the match award with his team mates Stan Williams and Glenda Prytherch also being unbeaten.
